When Instagram Gives You More Space…

Instagram changed the size of posts again. Now you’ve got more room on your screen: 1440 pixels instead of 1350.
On the surface, that feels exciting. More space! Finally, we can fit more in.
But here’s the trap: more space doesn’t mean you should use it to cram more.

Think of it like moving into a bigger house. The gift of more space is in the open, airy feeling. If you rush to fill every corner with more furniture, you lose the very thing you wanted: room to breathe.
And that’s not just true of Instagram posts. It’s true of how we use social media for our schools and organizations.
Because here’s the first question I get, every time: “So how many posts does your social media management package include?”
I get why people ask. It feels measurable. It feels like progress. However, the truth is, it’s not about me and how many posts I can produce. It’s about you. How much do you actually have going on that’s worth sharing? What moments, what stories, what values matter enough to amplify?
More posts don’t equal more impact. Just like a bigger post size doesn’t mean more words on the screen.
And let’s be honest for a minute. Instagram itself hasn’t figured it out. They’ve changed their format more times this year than you’ve probably rearranged your preschool classroom.
That should tell us something. If the platform with billions of users is still experimenting, then our job isn’t to chase perfection. Our job is to show up, tell our story clearly, and leave room for people to breathe it in.
Yes, we now have more space.
But the real question is:
Will we use it to clutter, or to clarify?
To post more, or to make what we do post matter more?
Because impact doesn’t come from filling the space, impact comes from letting what matters shine.
